HPC Elite hurdler, Jon McDowell, opened his 2013 season in Fort Worth, TX at the TCU Invite by winning the 110m High Hurdles in 14.01 seconds.

HPC Elite's athletes Terry Ransbury and Jef Souza both repeated as Masters National Champions in the Heptathlon in their respective age groups at USATF's Masters Combined Events Championships in Kenosha, WI. Congrats to our multi-time multi-event national champions.

Dr. Young presents at world class Speed Summit

Alongside other elite coaches including Tom Tellez and Loren Seagrave, HPC's Dr. Mike Young presented 2 lectures at the Speed Summit in Morristown, NJ. His first lecture was on the Mechanics of Speed and his second lecture was about Developing Physical Capacities for Speed and Power.

HPC Elite Chris Hoina places 6th at USA Skeleton Push Track Championships

HPC Elite athlete, Chris Hoina took 6th at the USA Bobsled & Skeleton Push Track Championships this past weekend at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. This was Chris 2nd push track championships. The push track championships are used as a means of assessing the sport specific speed and power of athletes competing in Skeleton during the off-season.

HPC Elite Masters run well in national and international competition

Three masters members of the HPC Elite track and field club performed well in national and international competition over the past weekend. In Oxford, England, Jef Souza won the British Masters Athletics Federation decathlon in the 35-39 year age group with a score of 6,249. In Lisle, IL Terry Ransbury (50-54) and Jeremy Willis (40-44) both placed 4th in the masters pentathlon in their respective age groups.

HPC Elite Jef Souza repeats as USATF masters decathlon champ

HPC Elite team member and multi-time masters national champion, Jef Souza, added to his medal count as he won another national championship in the decathlon at the USATF Masters Combined Event Championship in Shoreline, WA. His score of 6,331 best the competition by almost 400 points.

HPC Elite team hurdler Jon McDowell ran 13.86 in the 110m High Hurdles to win the race at an all-comers meet at TCU. See a video here.

HPC Elite Eric Broadbent places 14th at the US Olympic Trials

HPC Elite's Eric Broadbent placed 14th at the 2012 US Olympic Trials. Despite cold and rainy weather, Broadbent was ranked as high as 4th place after the 6th event. Unfortunately, a no-height in the pole vault took him out of contention. Despite the no-height, Eric finished strong with a near personal best in the javelin and strong showing in the 1500m. The event was one for the ages as the eventual winner, Ashton Eaton, set a world record in the event with 9,039 points.

HPC Elite’s Eric Broadbent prepares for Olympic Trials

HPC Elite team member, Eric Broadbent has officially qualified for the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR. USATF made the announcement just 48 hours prior to the event. Broadbent will compete in the decathlon where he is the 17th seed in the meet. The top 3 competitors will go to compete in the London Olympic games.

Ruby Bost wins NC State games and sets club record

HPC Elite team member, Ruby Bost, won the NC State games 200m and 400m. Her 400m time of 57.59 seconds breaks the existing club record in the event.

HPC Elite’s Eric Broadbent places 2nd at Pan-Am Combined Event Championship

HPC Elite athlete, Eric Broadbent, represented the United States and placed 2nd in the Pan-Am Combined Event Championship in Ottawa, Canada with a score of 7,498. Eric was the top American in the competition and placed behind only Cuban, Jose Mendieta Velazquez. Broadbent led after day one with a score of 4322 points. He won 4 first day events (100m, long jump, high jump and 400m).

McDowell leads HPC Elite at Wolfpack Last Chance

HPC Elite's Jon McDowell led the club at the Wolfpack Last Chance meet at NCSU with a second place finish in the 110m Hurdles. His time was 13.93. Ruby Bost placed 5th in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:01.71 and Carin Knight won the women's high jump with 1.73m.

HPC Elite's Jon McDowell and Ruby Bost both ran hurdle races at the Duke Twilight invitational and placed in the top 3. McDowell ran the 110m High Hurdles and took 2nd with a time of 14.13 in to a headwind. Ruby ran 1:01.24 in the 400m hurdles to place 3rd amongst all women.

HPC Elite’s Eric Broadbent earns Olympic Trials Qualifier

HPC Elite's Eric Broadbent scored a major personal best at the prestigious Mt SAC Relays decathlon in Azusa, CA. Eric placed second overall with a score of 7,750 points. This total added almost 200 points on to his previous personal best. Eric handily won the high jump with a mark of 2.18m (7'1.5") and set personal bests in the discus throw, javelin, and 1500m.
