HPC's Mike Young and Andrew Allden instructed a USA Track & Field Level 1 coaches certification course in Bowie, MD on August 13-15. Young taught the biomechanics, exercise physiology, biomotor development for speed-power athletes, jumping events and sprints / hurdles / relays curriculums. HPC Elite Team member Karjuan Williams won his prelim and semifinal round of the men's 800m to advance to the finals of the event. His preliminary time of 1:47.02 was the fastest of the round. HPC Elite's Eric Broadbent placed 2nd at the TX Greatest Athlete decathlon competition in Dallas, TX. Despite sweltering heat, Broadbent improved on his personal best decathlon score from just 3 weeks prior by posting a lifetime best of 7,316 points. HPC Elite Team's Babatunde Ridley competed in the 100m and long jump at the USATF West Region and Southern California Championships. His time of 10.36 established a new HPC Elite club record and placed him 6th in an elite field. HPC Elite's middle distance group was in action at the Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville, TN. Tanya Osborne highlighted the meet by breaking her club record in the 800m with a time of 2:11.75. Also in action were Eric Speer and Jeff Jackson who ran the 800m in 1:51.73 and 1:53.60 respectively.
