HPC Elite's Jon McDowell and Ruby Bost both ran hurdle races at the Duke Twilight invitational and placed in the top 3. McDowell ran the 110m High Hurdles and took 2nd with a time of 14.13 in to a headwind. HPC Elite's Eric Broadbent scored a major personal best at the prestigious Mt SAC Relays decathlon in Azusa, CA. Eric placed second overall with a score of 7,750 points. This total added almost 200 points on to his previous personal best. Eric handily won the high jump with a mark of 2.18m (7'1.5") and set personal bests in the discus throw, javelin, and 1500m.Karjuan Williams leads HPC Elite at UNC

Three members of the HPC Elite track and field team were in action last week at the Duke Invitational. High jumper Carin Knight led the way with her 3rd consecutive win of the outdoor season in the high jump with a mark of 1.79m. This mark is just 1mm away from her outdoor club record. Also in action were Eric Broadbent and Steve Simeus. Decathlete Broadbent ran the 200m in 22.37 and long jumped 6.96m. On two consecutive weekends, members of the HPC Elite team turned in impressive results around the South. At the VertKlasse Invitational held at High Point University, the team was led by winning performances by Carin Knight in the high jump (1.72m) and Jon McDowell in the 110m High Hurdles (13.88). McDowell's run destroyed his existing club record in the event. National Champion heptathlete, Eric Broadbent, also competed in the 200m (22.11), 110m High Hurdles (14.44 - PR), and discus (38.79m). The following weekend, Knight, Broadbent and Ruby Bost competed at the Raleigh Relays. Carin again won the high jump (1.75m) while Eric turned in strong performances in the 400m (48.47), 110m High Hurdles (14.43 - PR) and long jump (7.08m). Ruby Bost also competed in the 400m (1:00.34) and 400m Hurdles (1:04.61). HPC's Dr. Mike Young led the USTFCCCA's Track & Field Technical Certification (TFTC) course in Rochester, NY. The TFTC is the only professional certification course in the United States available for Track & Field coaches.Young works with elite athletes in Chula Vista, CA

HPC Elite masters athletes, Terry Ransbury, Jeremy Willis, and Jef Souza, were in action this week at the USATF Indoor National Championships. All 3 brought home medals at the USATF National Championships. Terry won a silver medal in the pentathlon in the 50-54 age group. HPC Elite's Eric Broadbent was awarded USATF's Athlete of the Week for his winning performance at the USATF Combined Events National Championships. Eric won the heptathlon with 5,908 points March 3-4 in Bloomington, Ind. With five event personal bests in the 7 events, and a heptathlon best by 366 points, Broadbent won his first national title against the best field of competitors in several years. HPC Elite's Eric Broadbent won the US National Championships in the heptathlon in Bloomington, IN with a club record and personal best score of 5,908 points. Eric bested a field that included 3 former national champions by almost 100 points. Eric set personal records in the shot put (13.70m - 44'11"); high jump (2.18m - 7'1 3/4"); pole vault (4.30m - 14'1") and 1,000m run (2:39.17). His score added over 200 points on to his previous best score. Eric is now the club's third national champion, joining Brandon Roulhac (triple jump champion in 2009 outdoors and 2010 indoors) and Jef Souza (2011 masters Heptathlon and Decathlon National Champion).
