Mike Young and Andrew Allden to instruct course at NC Police Academy

For the second time this year, HPC's Mike Young and Andrew Allden will lead a course on "Physical Preparedness for Law Enforcement Officers" at the North Carolina Justice Academy. The 8 hour course features an HPC developed curriculum to better prepare today's law enforcement officers for their physical screening tests as well as the demands of their job. HPC Elite Team member, Karjuan Williams ran the fastest 800m for an American in 2010. His time of 1:45.79 at the Grande Premio Brasil meeting in Rio de Janeiro established a new personal best and broke his existing club record. If Karjuan can hold on to his place as the top American time for the 2010 outdoor season, he will succeed Brandon Roulhac (triple jump - 2009) and Dallas Robinson (55m - 2008) as the 3rd member of the HPC Elite track and field team to have finished a season atop their event on the U.S. performance charts.HPC’s Allden and Young instruct coaches at Orlando USATF Level 1 school

HPC's Andrew Allden and Mike Young are set to instruct the track and field coaches attending the track coaches attending the USATF Level 1 Coaches Education School in Orlando on May 21-23. Allden will instruct Philosophy & Ethics and the Endurance curriculum. HPC's Mike Young is in Tucson, AZ to assist the elite shot putters competing in the Tucson Elite Invite as part of USA Track & Field's High Performance Plan. HPC Elite Team members, Eric Broadbent and Kelly Furr, competed at the Wake Forest Combined Events Classic at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Broadbent finished 3rd with personal best mark of 7137 in the decathlon. This broke his previous personal best by over 500 points. Broadbent won 3 events on the way to posting his personal best - the 100 meters (10.77), the high jump (2.13m), and the 110m High Hurdles (14.51). His high jump performance broke the previous meet record in the event and his hurdle mark shattered his previous personal best (14.71) and established a new club record. Despite a no-mark in the javelin, Kelly Furr also competed well. This was her first heptathlon of her career and she established personal bests in 4 events - the 200 meters, the long jump, the shot put, and the 800 meter run. The HPC Elite team was in action at the Tony Waldrop Tar Heel Invitational on the campus of UNC in Chapel Hill, NC. Joel Williams highlighted the meet with a win in the 800 meter run. HPC Elite Team members, Karjuan Williams and Babatunde Ridley were in action this weekend. Karjuan competed at the Jamaica Invitational in the 800 meters. His time of 1:49.54 was good enough for a 5th place finish. Babatunde competed in the long jump and 100m at the 16th Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine. His mark of 7.42 meters (24'4.25") took 2nd in the long jump and his time of 10.59 took 9th place in the 100 meters.Eric Broadbent sets PRs at High Point Vertklasse Meet

HPC Elite Team member and decathlete Eric Broadbent set multiple new personal records at the High Point Vertklasse meet in High Point, NC. Eric competed in the javelin, pole vault, 110m High Hurdles, and the 4x400m relay. In the javelin, Eric had 5 throws over his previous personal best with his best being 40.94 meters. In the 110m High Hurdles, Eric took off 0.09 seconds off his previous best by running 14.71 seconds. Both marks established his existing club records. He cleared 4.05 meters in the pole vault and teamed up to run on the winning 4x400m relay. Masters thrower Chris Garrett also competed and took third in the shot put with a best mark of 11.99 meters. HPC Elite Team member Babatunde Ridley opened his 2010 outdoor season with a mark of 7.35 meters in the long jump at the UCSD Triton Invitational in San Diego, CA. Joel Williams won the 800 meters and placed 6th in the 400 meters with times of 1:51.83 and 48.25 seconds respectively. HPC Elite team members Karjuan Williams and Alie Israel had strong showings at the Mt SAC and Kansas Relays respectively. Karjuan placed 3rd in the men's invitational 800 meters at Mt SAC with a season best time of 1:47.14. The HPC Elite team was in action this past weekend. The middle distance group competed at UNC in Chapel Hill, NC and the speed-power group competed at UNC Charlotte. In the men's 800m, Joel Williams ran 1:51.01; Jeff Jackson ran 1:53.28; and Brandon Jones ran 1:53.55. In the women's 1500m Maria Medina ran 5:10.29. In Charlotte, Kelly Furr won the long jump, high jump, and 100 Hurdles with marks of 5.05m, 1.58m and 15.48 seconds. Eric Broadbent won the pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin and 200m with marks of 3.97m, 12.56m, 36.17m, 38.77m and 22.43 seconds.
