HPC Elite members turn in winning performances at Duke Invite

Several members of the HPC Elite team were in action at the Duke Invite at Duke University in Durham, NC. Kelly Furr started things off with a winning performance in the women's pole vault. Her performance of 3.80 meters won the performance and broke her existing club record. Another win was turned in by Karjuan Williams in the 800 meter run. His time of 1:48.84 won the competition by almost 2 seconds. Joel Williams placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.71 seconds. This time broke Adrian Findlay's club record for the event. Decathlete Eric Broadbent turned in a personal best performance in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds and returned later in the day to run 50.56 seconds in the 400 meter run. Other notable performances were turned in by Brandon Jones and Jeff Jackson who ran 1:52.02 and 1:53.86 respectively in the 800 meters, Eric Speer who ran 49.99 in the 400 meters, and the team of Karjuan Williams, Brandon Jones, Jeff Jackson and Joel Williams who ran 3:17.40 seconds in the 4x400 meter relay despite dropping the baton.

HPC Elite member Alie Israel turns in strong 100m performance

HPC Elite Team member Alie Israel turned in a strong 100 meter performance in her first outing of the 2010 season at the distance. Her performance of 11.57 seconds at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, AL is just 0.04 off her personal best and HPC Elite club record.

HPC Elite Team wins 4 x 800m relay at Raleigh Relays

The HPC Elite team of Joel Williams, Jeff Jackson, Brandon Jones, and Karjuan Williams won the men's 4 x 800 meter relay at the prestigious Raleigh Relays. There time of 7:32.55 bested Virginia Tech by over a second and established a new club record. In other action heptathlete Kelly Furr placed 4th in the pole vault.


HPC Elite Team member Eric Broadbent breaks club record in high jump

HPC Elite Team member and decathlete Eric Broadbent broke the existing club record in the high jump by clearing 2.15 meters (7'0.5") at the Raleigh Relays. The performance was good enough for second in the tough competition and established a new personal best for Broadbent. The previous outdoor high jump club record was 2.03 meters by Broadbent in 2009. Eric also ran the 110m Hurdles where he ran a seasonal best 14.95 seconds. This mark was just 0.04 off his all-time personal best.

Mike Young instructs USATF Level 1 school in Philadelphia and New York

HPC's Mike Young instructed USA Track & Field Level 1 Coaching Education Schools on March 19-21 and March 26-28 respectively. At both schools, Mike instructed the biomechanics, physiology, training theory and jumping events curriculum. The schools attendance rank them both among the top 10 most well-attended schools in the history of the program.

HPC Elite Team opens outdoor season with strong performances

The HPC Elite Team opened its outdoor season campaign with strong performances. Adrian Findlay placed 4th in the 400 meters with a time of 48.00 seconds at the Wake Forest Open and decathlete Eric Broadbent ran the 200m in a near personal best of 21.99 seconds. Sprinter Alie Israel was also in action in Atlanta, competing at Emory University winning both the 200 meters and 400 meters. She ran times of 24.53 and 58.59 respectively.

HPC Elite concludes 2010 Indoor Season

The HPC Elite track and field team concluded a successful 2010 indoor campaign. Multi-eventers John Strang and Eric Broadbent placed 5th and 6th respectively at the USATF Combined Event National Championships on March 5th and 6th. Brandon Roulhac placed 14th in the men's triple jump at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar. And triple jumper Tiina Magi won the women's triple jump at the USATF Indoor Eastern Region Championships with a best mark of 12.70m.

Eric Broadbent and John Strang in 4th and 5th after Day 1 of USATF Heptathlon National Championships

HPC Elite Team members Eric Broadbent and John Strang are sitting in 4th and 5th place after the first day of the USA Track & Field Combined Events National Championships in Bloomington, IN. The pair finished 1-2 in the 60m with times of 6.97 for Broadbent and 7.00 for Strang. Both athletes set personal bests in the shot put and John Strang won the high jump at 2.07m. After Day 1, Broadbent scored 3210 and Strang 3115.

HPC Elite member Alie Israel takes 6th in 60m at USATF Indoor Championships

HPC Elite Team member Alie Israel placed 6th at the USA Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, NM. Her time of 7.38 seconds was just 0.02 seconds off her PR and moved her up two spots from her placing at the 2009 Indoor National Championships.

HPC Elite Team member Brandon Roulhac takes 2nd at USATF National Championships

HPC Elite Team member, Brandon Roulhac placed 2nd in the men's triple jump at the USATF Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, NM. His jump of 16.72 meters (54'10.25") placed him behind only Lawrence Willis. Brandon was the reigning indoor national champion in the triple jump from 2009.

HPC Staff to instruct NC Law Enforcement Officers

HPC Staff members, Andrew Allden and Mike Young will instruct a course entitled "Physical Preparedness for the Law Enforcement Officer" at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC. The course is designed for individuals interested in preparing for the Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT), Cooper's Institute Standards for Law Enforcement Physical Assessment, and basic physical fitness tests for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. HPC’s Athletic Lab to host USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Seminar

HPC's Athletic Lab is proud to announce that we will be hosting a USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Coach Course on March 13th and 14th. USA Weightlifting is the national governing body for the sport of Olympic Weightlifting and its sport performance coach course is the leader in technical coaching development for the foundational movements of sport performance. HPC Elite qualifies 4 athletes for USATF National Championships

The HPC Elite track and field team has qualified four athletes for the USA Track & Field National Championships. Sprinter Alie Israel and triple jumper Brandon Roulhac will compete in the women's 60 meters and men's triple jump this weekend in Albuquerque, NM at the individual event championships. Multi-event athletes John Strang and Eric Broadbent will compete in the heptathlon at the USATF combined event championships the following weekend in Bloomington, IN.
