Pole-Vault Training: Elements for All Levels [Book]
Pole-Vault Training: Elements for All Levels illustrates a training method for the pole vault that focuses on the construction of the correct posture in order to optimize technical understanding of the sport.
While obtaining correct posture is important to any sport, it is especially essential in the pole vault, a complex sport based on various technical and motor aspects and running techniques. Trainers can use the methods in this book to help athletes at any level obtain consistent results and avoid injury. Topics in, Pole-Vault Training: Elements for All Levels include: the basic technical model, acrobatic gymnastics for pole-vaulting, specialized equipment and its connection to pole-vaulting, developing a training plan.
Vitali Petrov’s Biography:
Vitali Petrov, one of the most influential coaches in track and field, Vitali Petrov is most commonly associated with the development of pole-vault world record holder Sergey Bubka. Together, they laid the foundation for Bubka’s astonishing career, which included breaking the world record 35 times, winning an Olympic gold medal, winning six consecutive world championships, being the first man ever to vault six meters, and remaining, to this day, the only person to vault over 20 feet (6.10m). In addition to his work with Bubka, Petrov has had a much broader influence in the sport. He developed Italian pole-vaulter Giuseppe Gibilisco, coaching him to a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics and a win in the 2003 world championships (the seventh consecutive world championships won by one of Petrov’s athletes). Petrov is currently coaching women’s world-record holder Yelena Isinbaeva. He also works closely with athletes and coaches from around the world, including Monika Pyrek and her coach, Wiascheslav; Fabiana Murer and her coach, Elson Miranda; as well as many others who seek training camps with him.
Vincenzo Canal’s biography:
Vincenzo Canal, a professor of sport, specializing in the development of young athletes and aerobic sport, Vincenzo Canali has not only developed world class trampolining champions, but he has worked to develop the postural basics with athletes from many disciplines, including Olympic marathon champion Stefano Baldini. Canali’s vision for body position and movement establishes a foundation for incredibly complex and technical movements via the most efficient paths possible. His breakdown of combining forces, body loading, and synergetic efficiencies simplifies complex technical models. Together with Petrov, Canali has broken down the core elements of “the Petrov model” to create a base for the training and development of all athletes. He lays out the possibilities and importance of gymnastic training to coordinate with and strengthen the technical aspects of pole-vaulting.
